The best YouTube channels for designers and developers

I just recently realized how much time I spend on YouTube everyday. To be more precise, about 50 minutes every single day. About three years ago I started developing the habit of opening the YouTube Subscriptions page every day to check out new videos from the channels I had subscribed to.

More recently, I decided to subscribe to channels related to design and technology as well, and I’m surprised by how everyday there’s at least one good video worth watching.

Take a look at the channels below and pick a few if you want to get started on that habit. Some of them post new videos quite often; others are just worth visiting to browse through the archive.

For Designers

The Futur

For designers and creative entrepreneurs, the videos range from UX Design, to Branding, to Business. Really well produced videos.

Howard Pinsky

Adobe Photoshop training on various techniques, such as text effects, photo composition, photo retouching, the basics of photoshop, special effects, etc.

Laith Wallace

Advice, tools and motivation to UX/UI Design students, small businesses and people looking to start a carrer in UX.

No Divide

A place to learn and get inspired about web design. In his series of videos #LetsTalkDesign, the author of the channel covers topics like career, learning and managing design projects.

UX Hacker & Sketch TV

Tutorials about Sketch App and prototyping tips including InVision, Marvel and Principle.

Adobe Photoshop

And then there’s the official Adobe Photoshop YouTube channel, in case you’re really interested in tutorials and techniques to flex your software skills.

Mike Locke

From software tutorials to career advice; a pretty plural channel with tons of content related to Design and UX.

High Resolution

Recently launched, this channel brings interviews with senior designers about how the best companies approach, communicate, and deploy design.

Sarah Doody

Honest videos that talk about career advice in design, technology and entrepreneurship.

Expose UX

A User Experience web series where startup founders seek help from UX experts.

UX Salon

Every month a new video with thought leaders on User Experience and Design. Some pretty interesting conversations going on there.

UX Mastery

Hasn’t been updated in a while, but worth checking out the archive — with easy-to-digest videos on UX methods and the challenges of our profession.

Better Elevation

A channel about how and why things get made. Not a lot of videos, but some good thinking around topics such as The Future of Interfaces, and Designing for Humans.

CareerFoundry

A mix of webinars, interviews and inspirational videos on design and UX. Some sponsored content in between.

Mackenzie Child

Product Designer and Illustrator shares tutorials on how to design landing pages, illustrations, wireframes and more.

Updated quite often, this channel is fed by various developers at Google, and covers topics such as Android, Chrome, and Web Development.

Code Course

A channel to help you learn code, with videos that dive deep into very specific technologies (e.g. “Build a Placekitten clone with Silex”).

LevelUp Tutorials

A channel that aims to fix a major problem in learning technologies — the lack of in-depth, basic tutorials that teach more than just what to type when.

LearnCode.Academy

Web development tutorials in topics such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Responsive Design, React.js, Node.js, Angular.js, Backbone.js, Docker, and more.
