Big words aren’t accessible.

His famous quote, “Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?” takes a comedic approach highlighting this topic–using big words and a lot of them is a needless waste of time.

While I am not suggesting we take it to the level Kevin did, there is evidence that would suggest using few, small words make you a more effective communicator.

As professionals in the UX and product design space, we face communication challenges regularly.

Perhaps we are adding to the challenges we face by speaking in terms our stakeholders and teammates don’t understand.

This topic was inspired by my experience in meetings with cross-functional teams on stressful projects operating under tight timelines.

I noticed several individuals–and honestly sometimes myself–use a string of words that went completely over my head when trying to answer questions or address potential risks.
