Free Fonts
Fabrica Regular
Fabrica is an extremely simple sans-serif typeface which has been designed with handheld devices in mind, being optimized for them. This font proves to be excellent on small screens and it is beautiful.
HIGH TIDE
HIGH TIDE is a very modern font, which although can’t be used for paragraph text, it would work excellently for headlines. I don’t think it is something that would work very well on small screens, but it would be great for web design.
Fauna
Fauna is also a modern Argentinian typeface with low contrast and soft terminals combining with the very traditional serifs. I believe Fauna would work excellent for headlines. The font is free through Google Web Fonts, so it is also very easy to use it on a website.
Tekia
Tekia is also a new serif typeface, but in contrast with the one above, it is very traditional and doesn’t combine modern elements.
Bowhouse
Bowhouse is inspired from the Bauhaus style and it comes in four different weights (light, regular, bold and black). Although the author still tweaks the kernings, the typekit looks excellent and I would jump into using it right away.
Klinic
Klinic is a free font coming in four weights and italics for each one of them. You can see examples of it in use on the presentation page.
Merula
Merula has three styles and an upper-lowercase one. It suits paragraph text, display and posters and is free to download for all its weights. I believe the “Long” weight is a bit taken too much to the extreme, but the rest are cool.
Olgassys
Olgassys is not a font you will be able to use in commercial design, but you will be able to have fun with it for your own projects. It is a very fun typeface to look at. You will probably not going to use it for serious projects, but it can be great for some projects.
Modular Typeface – Shift
Shift is an excellent newly-designed font which seems to be perfect for print. I do not know how well it would work for web, but it is for sure excellent for posters and generally print.
Aleo
Aleo is designed as a companion to Lato, which we use in our Flat Design UI Kit, and which is an amazing font to be used in Flat Design. It has semi-rounder details and sleek structure and has a good personality with great readability. It comes in six styles with italics for each one of them.
Langdon
Langdon was designed in March and is a compressed sans typeface, but only in uppercase. The typeface is clear and great for headlines, but not easy at all to use for paragraph text. I would actually advise against it.
Hapna Slab
This is a slab font released in January as Hapna Mono. However, the typeface has been redesigned as an alternative to other slab style on the market and Hapna Slab is the result.
Biko Regular
Biko is a sans-serif typeface which is, in the same time, strong and friendly. It is suitable for display, copy text and logos and although it only comes in Regular for now, its designers are working on a Bold and Extra Bold variants.
Corbert
Corbert is a sans-serif typeface influenced by the Bauhaus style and the early modernist era. The circles it is designed on are adjusted to create a fantastic typekit. It includes 540 characters and five variations of numerals, opentype features and manually edited kerning.
Speakeasy
Speakeasy is a font designed for headlines and print and it is not intended to be used for copy text.
Fénix
Fénix is designed for pretty much everything and it would also work well for paragraph text. It has strong serifs and rough strokes and it is very elegant at large sizes.
Passau
Passau is a display typeface with an antique feel. It is handmade and has a diverse personality. It works very well for headlines and big titles.
VDS Font
VDS Font is a great sans-serif typekit coming in eight different weights. It is a font that works very well for paragraph text, as well as for print and headlines.
Now you’re going to move on to the premium fonts. Some of them are actually quite cheap, so you might want to look into these as well. Paying for a font most of the time means quality assurance – there’s a reason behind them costing money.
Paid Fonts
Nanami – $ 2.5
Nanami is a Japanese-inspired typeface influenced by early swiss sans-serif typefaces. It consists of an incredible number of 18 individual weights from Thin to Black and it offers support for lots of languages.
Alianza Font Family – $ 5.23
This great font family includes three different, but complenetary styles: Slab, Italic and Script. There are nine weights to each one of them and there are three different sets of figures: proportional and tabular lining and old style.
Nexa Slab – $ 9
Nexa Slab is a great font based on the popular font called Nexa. It contains italics, obliques and uprights and each of them comes in 8 different weights, which means that the price of $ 9 is for all the 24 fonts. The typeface is currently on offer; the original price was $ 99, so you never know when it’s going back to the original price again. You might want to hurry if you like this one.
Barracuda Script – $ 25 – $ 59
Barracuda Script is a vibrant family of three weights and a large number of alternates. You even have a style for writing in all caps.
Nuber – $ 32 – $ 279
This font is a linear geometric sans-serif with neo-grotesque influences. It includes 540 characters with alternative letters and many variations.
Canapé – $ 49 – $ 165
Canapé is a typeface with a subtly curved and slightly modulated line. It is warm, friendly and cozy. It has been designed with attention to details and comes up with more than 4 200 characters in total.
Core Sans – $ 24 – $ 103.60
Although it can become very expensive, Core Sans is a series of several fonts (or a family of fonts, as you might know it), which includes lots of font weights and variations. Although the price tag might scare you at the beginning, professionals would most likely want to pay for this, as it is a good deal, including more than 100 fonts.
Bulo Rounded – $ 19 – $ 95
Bulo Rounded is also a very nice font which can be used for all kinds of purposes. One font can be bought for $ 19 and you can get the whole collection for $ 95. The collection is also priced at $ 95 for now, but it normally costs $ 250, so you might want to hurry.
Kahlo Rounded – $ 19 – $ 39
Kahlo Rounded has a bit of a Latin flavor and it was inspired by Mexican decorative elements. It has four weights and italics and some other alternates and works well for posters, logos, advertising, headlines and many others. It is kind of a font that works for everything.
Tabia – $ 5.80 – $ 23.80
Tabia is a sans-serif typeface with a strong technical appearance. It includes 9 weights, 426 characters and opentype features. Hurry, it is at sale right now.
Korpo Sans – $ 2.90 – $ 15
Korpo Sans is a friendly typekit including eight variants and with support over 40 languages. On sale as well, so make sure you buy it quickly if you like it.
Fair Sans – $ 20 to $ 100
Fair Sans is a collection which can be bought for $ 100. It includes four weights with true italics, small caps, old style and tabular numeral and multi-language glyphs.
That’s it for today. You now have thirty fonts you can play around with and use in your designs. Some might be free and some others you might have to pay for, but you should look into every and each one of them, as they are very, very well designed fonts.
