What Is the Tahoma Font?
Designed in the 1990s by Matthew Carter for Microsoft, Tahoma is a humanist sans-serif typeface. Tahoma was first distributed as a computer font with Microsoft Office 97.
Quite similar to other web-safe fonts for HTML and CSS like Arial and Verdana, Tahoma distinguishes itself with a narrower body, smaller counters, much tighter letter spacing, and a more complete Unicode character set.
Carter named his new design after Mount Tahoma, the Native American name for the prominent mountain range around the Seattle metro area where he lived and worked, officially known as Mount Rainier.
